Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni visits Cappadocia following bilateral cultural forum
Greek Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni visited the world-renowned historical and cultural heritage sites of Cappadocia following the conclusion of the first Türkiye-Greece Cultural Forum, an initiative aimed at strengthening cultural cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
According to a statement from the Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency, Mendoni toured several of Cappadocia’s most iconic landmarks after participating in bilateral meetings and forum activities with Türkiye’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.
One of the first stops on her itinerary was the Paşabağları Open-Air Museum, famous for its unique fairy chimneys and geological formations. Mendoni also visited the Church of the Virgin Mary and the historic Kaymaklı Underground City, among other significant cultural sites in the region.
During the visit, Mendoni was accompanied by Gözde Şahin, Head of the European Union and Foreign Relations Department of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and Cem Aslanbay, President of the Cappadocia Area Administration.
The Greek minister examined Cappadocia’s distinctive rock formations up close and received briefings on ongoing conservation and preservation efforts designed to protect one of the world’s most remarkable natural and cultural landscapes.
The visit highlighted the growing cultural dialogue between Türkiye and Greece and underscored the importance both countries place on preserving and promoting shared heritage across the region.
