Olympic Torch to be in Komotini on 22 April
Among those who will carry the Olympic Torch at the event in Komotini will be Harun Molla, a member of the minority and a cyclist from Komotini who came first in the Greek Short Track Mountain Bike Championships in Crete in 2021.
The Greek Olympic Committee has decided that before each Olympic Games, the Olympic Torch will travel to different parts of Greece, as it does in other countries.
In line with the decision of the relevant committee, on Monday 22 April, Komotini will welcome the Olympic Torch as one of the city stations on its way to Paris as part of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The route of the Olympic torch in Komotini is as follows:
-Departure at 14:22 from 21 Ypsilantou Street.
The Torchbearers who will receive the Olympic Torch are as follows:
-1 Ipsilantou Street to Tsanaklio Municipal Library in Komotini at 14:25: Torchbearer Kiryakos Bakirtzis - Martial Arts.
-From Komotini Municipal Library to 1 Dimokritou Street at 14:28: Torchbearer Nikoleta Barba - Wrestler.
-Demokritou Street to Orpheus Street 21 at 14:31: Torchbearer Athanasios Mimikos - Wheelchair Basketball Player.
-From 21 Orpheus Street to Komotini Town Hall, 14:34: Torchbearer Konstantinos Baniotis - High Jump athlete.
-Time from the Town Hall to the junction of Sismanoglou and Zimvrakaki streets: 15:07: Torchbearer Harun Molla - Cyclist.
-Touching Ceremony at the Town Hall of Komotini at 14:37: Altar Touching Ceremony of the Torchbearer Kostas Baniotis.
The ceremony will take place in the presence of the two athletes selected by the Olympic Torch Relay Committee, Kiryakos Amoutzas and Dimitris Bahtsevanidis.
This will be followed by the arrival of a delegation of officials from the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the Organising Committee of the "PARIS 2024" Olympic Games. The Olympic anthem, the French national anthem and the Greek national anthem will be played, while the flags of both countries will be hoisted.
At the end of the event, after the greetings of the representative of the PARIS 2024 Organising Committee and the representative of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the Mayor of Komotini, Yannis Garanis, the traditional presentation of gifts will take place.
The Olympic Torch will start its journey from Komotini to Alexandroupoli at 15.07.
