New digital service makes switching telecom providers easier

A new digital service is making it simpler for consumers to switch their fixed and mobile telephony, internet and pay TV providers.

Through the gov.gr platform, individuals can now quickly and easily provide consent to change providers, thus reducing paperwork and streamlining the process.

This service is part of the Ministry of Digital Governance’s effort to reduce digital bureaucracy and encourage competition in the market. It allows users to sign contracts or switch providers without needing to present physical documents, as the required information is automatically retrieved from government registers.

Starting next week, citizens will visit a provider’s store – either online or in person – to select a product or service. They will then access the gov.gr platform, log in with their Taxisnet credentials and confirm their identity with a one-time password (OTP) sent to their registered mobile number.

The necessary personal data, such as name, date of birth, and contact details, will be automatically extracted from public registers. After reviewing and approving the data, the citizen will give consent for it to be sent to the provider, completing the process with an electronic signature.

This service eliminates the need to submit documents like an ID or utility bill, as the process is securely handled through digital channels.

Currently, citizens can use this system to switch energy providers or take out vehicle insurance, with plans to expand digital consent to other services, such as push notifications via Gov.gr Wallet, for even faster transactions.
