Commemorative coin issued for the famous mathematician Karatheodoris
The Central Bank of Greece and the Ministry of Finance issued a 2 euro commemorative coin with the theme of the 150th anniversary of the birth of the world-famous Greek mathematician "Constantine Karatheodoris".
The collection coin dedicated to the mathematician Karatheodoris was designed by Yorgos Stamatopoulos, the award-winning sculptor of the Bank of Greece's Banknote and Currency Printing Foundation (IETA).
On the occasion of the minting of the 2 euro commemorative coin " an event in honour of Karatheodoris was held at the Bank of Greece on Monday 27 November.
The event started with a welcoming speech by the Governor of the Bank of Greece, Yannis Sturnaras, and the academics participating in the event talked about Karatheodoris' life and works.
Konstandinos Karatheodoris, whose father was from the village of Yeni Visa (Nea Vissa) in Western Thrace or Bosna in Edirne, was born in Berlin in 1873 as an Ottoman citizen. Karatodoris, whose father was the Ottoman ambassador to Brussels, grew up in Brussels.
Karatheodoris, who is also stated to have been a teacher of the famous scientist Albert Einstein, carried out many studies in the field of mathematics and worked as an academician in many universities, mainly in Germany.
Karatodoris was fluent in Greek, German, Turkish, Italian, French and English.
