Yannos Papantoniou is innocent of the weapons case

Giannos Papantoniou was found not guilty due to doubts , for the case of the modernization program of six frigates of the Navy, with the Dutch company Thales as the contractor.
The president of the Three-Member Court of Criminal Appeal pointed out that there is insufficient evidence of guilt for the crimes of disloyalty and passive bribery, that is, that he received a bribe of 2.5 million Euros for the contract to upgrade the six frigates of the navy and acquitted him of his crime money laundering.
His wife, Stavroula Kourakou and his close friend, Andreas Bardis , were also found not guilty.
The District Attorney pleaded guilty to the weapons programs in 2003 during his tenure at the Ministry of National Defense and, according to the indictment, black money was trafficked.
For his part, Yannos Papantoniou stated in his statements immediately after the court's decision:
"With emotion, substantial justification of my political struggles for a better Greece. A just decision that erases the enormous suffering my family has suffered over the past 8 years. A decision that honors Greek Justice".
