Wildfire in Palaia Fokaia under control

The wildfire that erupted at 12:35 PM between Palaia Fokaia and Thymari in Attica has subsided, according to a statement by the Fire Brigade. The fire, which broke out in low vegetation, led to the destruction of at least three homes, damage to ten vehicles, and the precautionary evacuation of approximately forty residents.

Although the fire is now in remission, strong firefighting forces remain on high alert to prevent potential flare-ups. On-site efforts include 170 firefighters, five specialized forestry units, 64 fire engines, 12 aircraft, and 12 helicopters—two of which are dedicated to aerial coordination.

The Greek Coast Guard has also deployed vessels along the coastline, and a firefighting boat continues operations from the sea. Civil Protection units, volunteers, regional machinery from Attica, and personnel from the General Staff are actively participating in containment and support operations.

Authorities issued five emergency evacuation alerts via the 112 emergency system for the settlements of Thymari, Tourkolimano, Katafygi, Harakas, and Triantafyllia.

An Arson Investigation Unit was dispatched immediately and is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

According to the National Observatory of Athens (meteo.gr), smoke from the wildfire was transported approximately 180 kilometers southwest and now hovers over the sea area near Kythera, illustrating the scale and intensity of the blaze.
