'We have neither a desire for war nor hostility' Greek Foreign Minister says

Foreign Minister Yorgos Gerapetritis emphasized that Türkiye and Greece have been in a great effort in terms of dialogue in recent months and said, "It is very important for us to be in dialogue under the conditions of sovereign equality and to be able to express our views."

Gerapetritis, who gave an interview to SKAI TV, evaluated Greece's relations with the USA and Türkiye.

Gerapetritis noted that the visit of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Greece today will focus on two main axes: international developments and bilateral relations.

Reminding that Greece has applied to be included in the F-35 programme, Gerapetritis pointed out that this issue will also be discussed during the meeting with Blinken.

Stressing that the decision on US diplomacy, politics and defence belongs to the US, Yerapetritis said: "What we always ask for is respect for the rule of territorial integrity and international law within a defence alliance, especially within the framework of NATO. No weapon allocated to a country can be used against an allied country."

Pointing out that the revision of the Treaty of Lausanne is out of the question for Greece, Yerapetritis said, "International law does not allow the revision of any agreement that determines borders."

Yerapetritis emphasized that Türkiye and Greece have been making a great effort in terms of dialogue in recent months and said, "It is very important for us to be in dialogue under the conditions of sovereign equality and to be able to express our views. Every Greek citizen realises how important it is to live in peace. This is very important."

Yerapetritis emphasised that Türkiye has never raised any issue regarding Greece's sovereignty and stated that Turkey has also taken important steps in the fight against irregular migration.

Reminding that Greece lagged behind in armament programmes during the economic crisis, Yerapetritis stated that these deficiencies were tried to be closed after the crisis.

Gerapetritis said, "We have neither a desire for war nor for enmity. We have always been a tolerant people, we want to live in peace, but we also want to guarantee our security."
