Two suspects identified in knife attack on 32-year-old man in Elefsina
Greek police have identified two suspects in a knife attack that seriously injured a 32-year-old man in Elefsina, near Athens, on Thursday, October 8. The two men, aged 22 and 18, are being sought by police, according to Greek media outlet EfSyn.
Police sources cited in the report said the suspects are allegedly associated with the far-right scene. Both have previously come to the attention of authorities over incidents linked to football-related violence, while the 22-year-old has also reportedly been arrested in the past for alleged weapons and drug offences.
The Western Attica Security Directorate is conducting a preliminary investigation into the case.
ATTACK MAY BE LINKED TO PREVIOUS CLASH
Investigators are examining whether the stabbing is connected to a confrontation in Elefsina last August between far-right individuals and anti-fascists.
According to the report, activists subsequently published photographs and identifying information about individuals they accused of participating in the earlier attack.
The 32-year-old told police that his assailants said they were targeting him because they believed he had posted the photographs. He reportedly denied any involvement in either the August confrontation or the publication, saying he had been mistaken for someone else.
VICTIM HOSPITALISED WITH SERIOUS INJURIES
The attack took place shortly after 4 p.m. on Thursday on Konstantinoupoleos Street. According to the report, three young individuals approached the victim, threatened him and stabbed him at least twice in the thigh before fleeing.
The injured man initially reached the Elefsina Health Centre using his own means. Because of the depth of his wounds, he was subsequently transferred by an ambulance operated by Greece’s National Emergency Centre (EKAB) to Tzaneio Hospital in Piraeus.
He was reported to be out of immediate danger but suffering from serious injuries.
POLICE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES
Initial reports suggested a possible attempted robbery after the victim said he had been threatened over his mobile phone. However, his subsequent account pointed investigators towards a possible politically motivated attack.
The suspects have been identified but remain at large, and the investigation is ongoing. The allegations have not yet been established in court.
