Spokesperson İkonomou: Cavusoglu's statements are 'unacceptable'
The statements made by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu to Turkey's news agency Anadolu were "unacceptable" and "historically without foundation", government spokesperson Yiannis Economou said, talking to Real FM on Tuesday.
He said there was escalating provocativeness on the Turkish side and stressed that Greece will immediately respond to these statements on all levels, with its allies and in its bilateral relations.
"We will not back down even one step as regards our sovereignty and its protection. All these things reflect Erdogan's multiple domestic problems, the annoyance and displeasure at the prime minister's repeated successes on the international scene," Economou added.
Regarding the special European Council in Brussels, he noted the prime minister had asked for measures to support the citizens alongisde measures to increase Europe's independence from Russia.
