The Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food, together with the National Scientific Committee for Disease Management and Control, released updated cumulative data on the spread of sheep and goat pox on Thursday, January 15, 2026.

According to data from the Veterinary Services, covering the period from August 2024 to January 9, 2026:

  • 2,042 confirmed cases of sheep and goat pox have been recorded,
  • The disease has affected 2,540 livestock farms nationwide,
  • A total of 470,274 animals have been culled in accordance with mandatory health protocols.

57 New Cases in the Latest Reporting Period

Between December 20, 2025 and January 9, 2026, laboratory test results confirmed 57 new cases across 16 regional units.

Biosecurity Measures Remain Crucial

Authorities emphasized that strict adherence to biosecurity measures is essential to contain the disease. Livestock producers are urged to follow the instructions of Veterinary Services and comply fully with established health protocols.
