Security at country’s entry points bolstered

Airports and ports of entry around Greece are being reinforced with 1,118 police officers ahead of the tourist season, according to an announcement by Minister of Citizens’ Protection Takis Theodorikakos on Tuesday after he met with with Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias.

Theodorikakos said the move aims to put out the message abroad that apart from being a beautiful country, Greece is also a safe destination. He added that a strong safety net is being built for every visitor and friend who comes to Greece. In this way, he noted, Greek tourism, businesses and workers in the sector are supported, creating new growth prospects.

For his part, Kikilias stressed that safety is a key element for travelers, noting that tourism is the main driver of growth and the creation of new jobs in Greece and estimated that this year will see a strong tourist season.
