Following the death of a 12-year-old boy after he was hit by a car while riding an electric scooter earlier this month, the government is planning stricter laws regulating the use of such vehicles on the country’s roads.

Following the death of a 12-year-old boy after he was hit by a car while riding an electric scooter earlier this month, the government is planning stricter laws regulating the use of such vehicles on the country’s roads.
They will be part of the new traffic code that is currently in the public consultation phase. Under the new legislation, companies that rent out scooters for short- or long-term use will be held more accountable for their use, while mandatory insurance is also being discussed.
The government has vowed to step up inspections and is planning heftier fines, reaching as much as 10,000 euros, for traffic code violations involving e-scooters.
