Eurostat says 28% of EU population, cannot afford a one-week annual holiday away from home

Around a third (28.3%) of the EU population cannot afford a one-week annual holiday away from home, according to a statement issued by Eurostat on Wednesday.

Eurostat is the statistical office of the EU situated in Luxembourg.

"It is estimated that 28.3% of the EU population, aged 16 or over, could not afford a one-week annual holiday, away from home in 2018," the statement said.

Among the 28 EU member states, Romania topped the list with 58.9% people unable to afford a one-week annual holiday, followed by Croatia (51.3%) with Greece and Cyprus 51% each.

Sweden (9.7%), and Luxembourg (10/9%) had the lowest percentage of people unable to afford such a one-week holiday.
