New IDs: Deadline for issuance until August 2026
The process of issuing new identification cards is underway, as all citizens are required to obtain them. The new IDs will include a Personal Number (PA).
What is the Personal Number (PA)?
The Personal Number will consist of the citizen's Tax Identification Number (AFM) along with one letter and two digits, which the individual will choose through the myinfo platform on Gov.gr.
This number will be used for identification in transactions with public sector authorities.
Issuance Process
- The citizen logs into the myinfo platform and generates their Personal Number.
- The number is stored in the new ID card.
- If there are errors in personal details (name, date of birth, etc.), correction via the registry office will be required.
Deadline & Appointments
- The deadline for obtaining the new IDs is August 2026.
- A new appointment system will be implemented to facilitate the process.
New Secure Access Codes
Additionally, citizens will have the option to obtain new, more secure access credentials for logging into Taxisnet, Gov.gr, and other digital platforms.
