A 50-year-old Hellenic Navy officer was found dead yesterday afternoon in a remote, wooded, and mountainous area of Akrata, a town on the northern Peloponnese coast along the Gulf of Corinth.

According to local media outlet tempo24.news, the man was discovered hanging from a tree in what is believed to be a suicide. A car, thought to belong to the officer, was found nearby.

The deceased was reportedly a senior ensign in the Navy, originally from Salamina. Local residents said they had seen him in the area recently, searching for a house to rent.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances and possible motives behind the incident.
