Mobile identity application starts on July 27

"We have perhaps the worst identity in Europe in terms of size, safety and functionality," Minister Pierrakakis said.

Kyriakos Pierrakakis, the minister of e-government, at the #MetaLiving conference announced that from July 27, IDs (Taftotita) and driving licenses will be transferred to citizens' mobile phones.

With the new application, the obligation of citizens to carry their identity and driver's licenses will be eliminated.

It was noted that when the ID is requested during the control, the ID can be presented digitally on the mobile phone.

With the new application, IDs and driver's licenses will be easily downloaded to mobile phones, just like the coronavirus vaccine certificate.

It will be sufficient to present the digital identity or driver's license that will be uploaded to the mobile phones during the control.

Pierrakakis "we have perhaps the worst identity in Europe in terms of size, security and functionality." said and continued, “Considering this fact, we aim to create an aesthetically beautiful, fast and safe system for all uses on a national basis with this innovation.” used the phrases.

Reminding that the new application will start from 27 July, Minister Pierrakakis said, “Passports are also travel documents.
Bilateral agreements are required for you to make changes. We first want to organize the national part with IDs and driver's licenses. We pass the ID and driver's license to the mobile phone. A regulation on the subject will also be made in the parliament.” he said.

It was noted that technical and legal details about how the transactions will be carried out will be announced in the coming days.
