Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis evaluated his visit to Türkiye in May. He stated that he aims to take the relations between the two countries to a higher level.

"Taking a step forward in the Turkish-Greek rapprochement"
Mitsotakis stated that his meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara on 13 May has the potential to advance Turkish-Greek relations.

Speaking to SKAI television, Mitsotakis said, "This rapprochement has yielded some important results so far."

Stating that a stable and calm environment continues in the Aegean Sea, Mitsotakis emphasised that there has been a significant decrease in illegal migration rates and that the visa-on-door application on the islands contributes to the local economy.

"All this creates an environment for living in peace," Mr Mitsotakis said.

"Even if we have differences of opinion, we should strive for positive things"
However, Mr Mitsotakis stated that there are also important issues that need to be resolved between the two countries, "For example, we are planning to create marine parks in the Aegean and Ionian Seas. Türkiye will also have ideas on this issue."

"Even though we have differences of opinion on some issues, this does not mean that we will not meet, that we will not accept the improvement in relations, that we will not focus on our differences and the negative things and endeavour to build positive things," Mitsotakis said.

"I don't expect Türkiye to change its policy, and I don't think that Türkiye expects me to change my policy all of a sudden," Mitsotakis said on the major issues of disagreement.
