Matthew Hagengruber is the new US Consul General at Thessaloniki

Hagengruber is a career diplomat with the US Department of State, having joined the diplomatic corps in 2011 following nearly a decade-long career in journalism at various newspapers across the United States.

He has served as a political officer at the US Embassy in Kyiv; cultural affairs officer; at the US Embassy in Sofia; assistant press attaché at the US Embassy in Moscow; and as a consular officer at the US Consulate General in Hermosillo, Mexico. He has also served in multiple roles at the State Department in Washington.

The new consul general is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Biology, and speaks Greek, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Russian, and Spanish.

Hagengruber is married with three daughters, and considers Helena, Montana, to be his hometown, and Thessaloniki his new home.
