Greek authorities have arrested a foreign national in Selanik on charges of violating narcotics legislation after seizing more than 61 kilograms of raw cannabis during a coordinated police operation.

The arrest was carried out on Tuesday morning (March 3, 2026) by officers of the Drug Enforcement Department of the Dedeağaç Sub-Directorate for Crime Prosecution and Investigation, in cooperation with the Northern Greece Organized Crime Division.

61 Kilograms of Cannabis Seized

According to police statements, authorities acted following the evaluation of intelligence indicating the suspect’s involvement in drug trafficking activities.

During the operation, officers located the suspect in a parking area inside a passenger vehicle. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery and seizure of:

  • Three travel bags containing 61 kilograms and 312 grams of raw cannabis
  • One mobile phone
  • An undisclosed amount of cash

Further investigation included a search at the suspect’s residence, conducted with the assistance of officers from the Drug Enforcement Department of the Crime Investigation Sub-Directorate of Trikala. During the search, authorities seized an additional €17,250 in cash.

Legal Proceedings Underway

The suspect has been charged under Greece’s narcotics laws and is expected to appear before the competent public prosecutor.

Preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Dedeağaç Sub-Directorate for Crime Prosecution and Investigation.

Greek authorities continue efforts to combat organized drug trafficking networks operating in Northern Greece.
