Local elections in Greece: 7 out of 13 regions decide in the first round
In 7 of the 13 states across Greece, the result was finalised in the first round. Candidates supported by the ruling New Democracy Party won all 7 states finalised in the first round.
In the first round of local elections held yesterday (8 October 2023), the following provinces were elected: Attica, Western Greece, Epirus, Central Macedonia, Crete, South Aegean and Central Greece.
On the other hand, in the province of Eastern Macedonia - Thrace, where Western Thrace is also located, the current President of the province, Christos Metios, is leading the race, but his vote rate is behind 43 per cent.
Candidates supported by the ruling NDP are in the lead in 10 provinces, except in Crete, which is supported by New Democracy and PASOK, and in the Ionian Islands and West Macedonia, where there are independent heads of state.
