According to local sources, after 19 immigrants who were pushed back and froze to death, the Greek elements beaten 14 immigrants from Syria and Somalia, took their clothes, and sent them to Turkey via the Evros (Meriç) River from the Aliböyköy location of the Meriç district of Edirne-Turkey. Seeing that 2 people were injured among the group that was pushed back half-naked, Turkish soldiers asked for an ambulance to the scene. It was observed that 2 Syrian immigrants, who were beaten with iron and pushed to Turkey, had wounds on their feet, head and arms. Injured immigrants were taken to Uzunköprü State Hospital and treated. Other immigrants were also given clothes and food by Turkish soldiers.
'They did all kinds of torture'
Syrian Husam Elhalaf said that the Greek security forces kept them in a room for 2 days and tortured them.
Stating that the Greek soldiers took their clothes and valuables and pushed them to Turkey, Elhalaf said, "I went to Greece 2 days ago and the Greek soldiers caught me. They took the immigrants they caught with me to a camp.Here they did not give us food and water for 2 days. They tortured us of all kinds here, women as well. Then they were brought to the riverbank, where they took our clothes, phone and money, robbed us and pushed us to the Turkish side,” he said.
‘Turkish Soldiers Took Care of Us’
Husam Elhalaf noted that Turkish soldiers took care of them and said, "They gave us shoes, coats and clothes. While we were tortured by the Greek security forces, 2 of our friends were injured. Turkish soldiers took them to the hospital. Turkish soldiers lit a fire and warmed us. We were very cold in the cold. They have beaten us by hitting us with iron. He was injured by the blows he received from the feet and hands of our injured friends in the chest.
Their condition was bad," he said.
The immigrants were taken to the Provincial Immigration Administration after the health check.
