High risk of fire in several regions on Friday (Category 4)
An alert for very high risk of fire on Friday (Category 4 of 5, or orange alert) was issued on Thursday for several regions of Greece.
According to the for August 16, the following areas are at very high risk:
- Attica Region, including the island of Kythira
- Central Greece Region (Regional Units of Fthiotida, Viotia, Evia and the island of Skyros)
- South Aegean Region (Regional Units of Cycladic Islands)
- North Aegean Region
- Central Macedonia Region (Regional Units of Chalkidiki, including Mt Athos)
- East Macedonia & Thrace Region (Regional Units of Thassos, Evros, and the island of Samothrace)
- Peloponnese Region (Regional Units of Korinthia, Argolid, Lakonia), and
- Region of Crete
The General Secretariat of Civil Protection (Climate Crisis & Civil Protection Ministry), which issues the Fire Risk Map, has also notified all related authorities in the above regions and municipalities, to remain on alert for possible fires.
Citizens noticing fires should call the Fire Department at 199, it said.
