Head of Greek Railways Train Drivers: Nothing is working
Kostas Yenidunias, Head of Drivers of the Greek Railway (OSE), said that the traffic lights and indicators on the Athens - Thessaloniki route were not working and that the traffic control was done manually.
After the train accident in the Tembi region, Yenidunias made a statement to the Greek State Television (ERT), saying, "Nothing is working. Everything is done manually with the human factor. We are in manual mode from Athens to Thessaloniki."
“If these had worked, the drivers would have seen the red signal and the trains would have stopped 500 meters from each other,” Yenidunias said.
Yenidunias, who said that employees complained about technical problems many times, added that there was a double train line in the area where the accident took place, and he could not understand why both trains were on the same line.
