The Greek Red Cross and the Turkish Red Crescent held an official meeting in Ankara to strengthen cooperation and enhance humanitarian aid efforts.

Upon the invitation of Turkish Red Crescent President Prof. Dr. Fatma Meriç Yılmaz, Greek Red Cross President Dr. Antonios Avgerinos and Director of International Relations and Partnerships Thaleia Fonazaki visited Ankara for discussions on potential collaboration.

As part of the visit, the Greek delegation toured the Disaster Operations Center (AFOM) to gain insight into the Turkish Red Crescent’s disaster response processes. Kurtuluş Açıksarı, Director General of Disaster Management and Climate Change, provided a detailed briefing on the organization’s humanitarian aid operations and disaster response strategies.

During the meetings, discussions focused on supporting vulnerable populations, developing joint strategies against natural disasters, and enhancing volunteer training programs. Both organizations expressed a commitment to working together on future projects. Additionally, Dr. Avgerinos indicated plans to initiate similar collaborations with the Red Cross branches in Bulgaria and North Macedonia.

This visit marks a significant step in strengthening solidarity between the Red Cross and Red Crescent movements.
