Greece launches training program to integrate migrants into workforce

A new government initiative will provide refugees and migrants with residence permits the opportunity to take part in career training programs aimed at easing their entry into the Greek labor market, officials announced on Tuesday.

According to AMNA, the scheme, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund, is designed to strengthen both social cohesion and the workforce by facilitating the organized inclusion of migrants into key sectors of the economy, including agriculture, construction, and tourism.

Special emphasis will be placed on programs for women, with the goal of improving employment opportunities and fostering social integration.

The initiative will be implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in partnership with the Ministry of Migration & Asylum.

Deputy Migration Minister Sevi Voloudaki highlighted the broader significance of the program, saying: “Under this new initiative we provide migrants with the opportunity to be smoothly integrated into Greek society, acquiring substantial skills and work options. In cooperation with the private sector, the training program serves as a bridge between education and work, boosts social cohesion, and contributes to local and national development.”

The joint ministerial decision launching the program was signed by Alternate National Economy & Finance Minister Nikolaos Papathanasis, Labor & Social Insurance Minister Niki Kerameus, Deputy Minister Anna Efthymiou, and Voloudaki.
