Greece, Greek Cypriot Administration satisfied with Türkiye's steps to improve relations with the EU
After his meeting with Christodoulides, Mitsotakis gave the message "We welcome the Türkiye-EU dialogue". The Greek leader said that they are against a two-state solution.
Following his meeting with Greek Cypriot President Nicos Christodoulides, Mr Mitsotakis faced the cameras for a joint press conference.
European Union foreign ministers said on 20 July that they were ready to re-engage with Ankara.
"We welcome the Türkiye-EU dialogue"
Mitsotakis and Christodoulides welcomed the Türkiye-EU dialogue but argued that it should be "gradual" and, if necessary, "reversible".
Prime Minister Mitsotakis said, "These two words should guide us. We may be optimistic, but we are not naive."
The Greek Cypriot community's eyes are on the Cyprus issue
Christodoulides shared the view that launching a positive agenda with Türkiye means that Ankara will take "positive steps" on the Cyprus issue.
"It is important that our EU partners adopt the same view," the Greek leader added.
He opposed the two-state solution
According to the Greek press quoted by Kathimerini, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said the following in his speech:
Any divisive idea about two states is completely out of the discussion agenda. I want to be very clear about this.
TRNC's sovereign equality emphasised
In the news article, "TRNC President Ersin Tatar said that the resumption of Cyprus peace talks will only be possible if Greek Cypriots accept sovereign equality."
