Greece is preparing to fully operationalize Israeli-manufactured SPIKE NLOS long-range anti-tank missile systems in the Eastern Aegean islands and the Meriç (Evros) border region, according to Greek military sources.

The SPIKE NLOS system, manufactured by Israeli company Elbit Systems, have entered the Greek military inventory and are undergoing operational integration following procurement from Israel.

The systems are planned for deployment, particularly in the Eastern Aegean islands and the Evros region bordering Türkiye.

Greek Army SPIKE NLOS network integration strategy

The Greek Army intends to use SPIKE NLOS systems not merely as standalone long-range weapons but also within a network structure encompassing sensors, unmanned aerial vehicles, command and control, and firing elements.

Greek military planners are targeting full operational integration of SPIKE NLOS systems by the summer months. During this process, training, maintenance, targeting procedures, and engagement rules will be clarified.

Personnel training has been concentrated at the Infantry School in Chalkida, with particular emphasis on comprehensive training for soldiers assigned to anti-tank units on the operation of systems.

SPIKE NLOS system capabilities and specifications

The SPIKE NLOS missile system, part of RAFAEL's SPIKE Family of precision-guided electro-optical missiles, provides pinpoint precision with an exceptional operating range of up to 32 kilometers from land-based platforms and up to 50 kilometers from air-launched variants.

The system can be launched from air, land, or naval platforms and successfully engages non-line-of-sight targets. The missile delivers real-time tactical intelligence and damage assessments, allowing it to adjust targets and abort missions mid-flight, operating in both offensive and defense scenarios.

Vehicle-mounted variants exceed 40 kilometers range, while air-launched versions reach up to 80 kilometers.

The system operates on "fire and forget" principles, enabling engagement of moving or concealed targets while bypassing obstacles such as walls and elevated terrain.
