Germany is ready to help on the new page between Türkiye and Greece
Germany, which mediated the tensions between the two countries during the peak of tension, also expressed its satisfaction with the rapprochement. The German government stated that they are ready to contribute to the two countries if deemed necessary.
While the rapprochement process between Türkiye and Greece, which started especially after the earthquakes of February 6, continues, Germany, which mediates between the two countries in many crises, is also pleased with this warm dialogue.
Germany has signalled to Türkiye and Greece that it is ready to contribute to the new rapprochement process they have initiated, if they wish to do so.
"The Federal Government welcomes the steps towards rapprochement between Turkey and Greece. Both countries are important NATO allies and close partners of Germany."
"The federal government is ready to contribute to this rapprochement process if the Turkish and Greek governments see it as beneficial," the reply said.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel played an important role in ending the "Oruç Reis" crisis, which brought the navies of the two countries face to face in the Eastern Mediterranean in August 2020.
The mediation efforts of Merkel, who repeatedly phoned Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis, yielded results when the efforts of the then US President Donald Trump were added.
