Gerapetritis: We agreed to continue the positive agenda

Foreign Minister Yorgos Gerapetritis stated that they agreed to continue the positive agenda between Türkiye and Greece and said, "Confidence-building measures negotiations will start in the near future."

Foreign Minister Yorgos Gerapetritis spoke at a joint press conference after his meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan at the Foreign Ministry.

Minister Gerapetritis stated that during his meeting with Minister Fidan, they had the opportunity to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues of interest to both countries.

Gerapetritis noted that the leaders of Turkey and Greece, who met within the scope of the NATO Vilnius Summit, made a new initiative and set a new goal for the resumption of cooperation between the two countries, and that they assigned a task to the foreign ministers within this framework.

Gerapetritis stated that firstly, they will discuss with Minister Fidan what they can do to eliminate the differences of opinion between the two countries, and secondly, they are tasked with directing the political talks between the two countries in all fields.

In this framework, Gerapetritis noted that as ministers, they have assumed the task of high-level responsibility and accountability, and thirdly, they have taken the task of preparing the ground for the meeting of the leaders of the two countries and making preparations to give the necessary messages at the highest level.

Gerapetritis stated that the road map they discussed with Fidan will consist of 3 stages, the first of which is the level of political talks, and that Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandra Papadopoulou will chair these talks from the Greek side.

Noting that the second stage is the issue of confidence-building measures, Gerapetritis said, "Confidence-building measures negotiations will begin in the near future."

"Thirdly, we agreed to continue the positive agenda (between Türkiye and Greece)," Gerapetritis said, adding that these talks will continue under the chairmanship of Deputy Greek Minister Kostas Fragogiannis.
