Gerapetritis: If there is an accident over Aegean, there will be no VAR to correct it

Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis referred to Greece's collaboration efforts with other countries, particulary with Türkiye, during his participation in the 28th Annual Economist Government Roundtable on Tuesday.
The roundtable's topic was "Geopolitical Conflicts: What are the preconditions for sustainable peace?". Gerapetritis said, "When an accident occurs over the Aegean, there won't be VAR to correct it," referring to the video assistant referee tool to support official decisions during a soccer game. "Our service to our homeland is to be able to hold discussions with our neighbors," he stressed, pointing out that "we will not agree on everything. We know that. We are neither naive, nor walking in the clouds."
However, he said, "what we must have and the obligation we have to future generations is to create those conditions that allow us to talk, to decompress tensions, to create a path of dialog, diplomacy, and democracy."
Gerapetritis mentioned that Greece has built a good positive agenda and the results are evident in the migration issue, which is under control due to the good cooperation between the two countries. Additionally, progress has been made in buiding interpersonal relations between Greeks and Turks on the islands, he said, where agreements with the European Union have simplified procedures and increased visitors from Türkiye. Moreover, incidents of overflights and aerial conflicts over the Aegean Sea have been reduced to zero.
