Flu infections remain high, coronavirus cases dropping in week of Feb. 19-25, EODY says

Influenza infections remained high in the week of February 19-25, with 5 cases hospitalized in intensive care units (ICUs) and 8 new deaths from confirmed cases, National Public Health Organization (EODY) said in its weekly report on Thursday, compared to the previous week.

On the other hand, SARS-CoV2 infections and related numbers were lower compared to the previous week. There was a 31% reduction in hospitalizations (298) compared to the average of the last 4 weeks (433) and lower compared to Feb. 19-25, 2023 (1,063). In addition, new intubations for Covid (5) also dropped compared to the average of the last 4 weeks (6), and than intubations in Feb. 19-25, 2023. Currently, there are 30 patients who are intubated in hospitals.

A total of 18 deaths with a median age of 87 years were recorded in the week of Feb 19-25, a lower number than the average of the last 4 weeks (42) and than in Feb. 19-25, 2023 (94).

In terms of influenza, a total of 128 people have been hospitalized at ICUs since the start of the flu season and a total of 58 patients died from confirmed flu infections.
