Farmers leave Athens after spending the night in front of the parliament
Farmers from all over the country travelled to Athens yesterday and spent the night with their tractors in front of the parliament building in Syntagma Square. Protesting against the government's policies, the farmers left Syntagma Square on the route determined by the police.
Farmers demand from the government to reduce production costs, especially diesel, electricity, fertiliser and pesticide prices, to ease tax burdens and to support farmers damaged by natural disasters.
The farmers also want to prevent the labelling of imported agricultural products sold on the domestic market as "Made in Greece".
Greek farmers argue that the low cost of agricultural products from the foreign market leads to unfair competition as they produce according to EU criteria.
