Extreme risk of fire-state of alert (risk category 5) is s predicted on Friday in three regions of Greece and very high risk of fire (risk category 4) in eleven Greek regions.
Extreme risk of fire for three Greek regions on Friday and Saturday

Extreme risk of fire-state of alert (risk category 5) is s predicted on Friday in three regions of Greece and very high risk of fire (risk category 4) in eleven Greek regions, according to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr). 

In particular extreme risk of fire is predicted on Saturday for the following areas:

  • Attica (including the island of Kythera)
  • Central Greece (regional units of Viotia and Evia)
  • Peloponnese (regional units of Argolida, Corinthia and Lakonia)

Very high fire risk is predicted on Friday for the following areas:

  • Region of Ionian Islands (regional unit of Zakynthos
  • Region of Western Greece
  • Region of the Peloponnese 
  • Region of Central Greece (regional units of Fthiotida and Fokida, Viotia, Evia including the island of Skyros)
  •  Region of Thessaly (regional unit of Magnesia)
  • Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace ( regional units of Rodopi, Meriç (Evros), Kavala, Taşöz (Thassos), İskeçe (Xanthi) and the island of     Semadirek (Samothraki)
  • Region of North Aegean
  • Region of Southern Aegean (regional units of Cyclades)
  • Region of Crete
  • Region of Central Macedonia (regional unit of Chalkidiki including Mt Athos)
  • Region of Epirus (regional unit of Preveza)

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection has informed the state services involved, as well as regional and local authorities in the above areas to be on heightened alert to deal promptly with any outbreak of fire. It has also warned the public to avoid any activities outdoors that may accidentally start a fire, such as bonfires, use of machinery that creates sparks, barbecues, handling beehives or throwing away lit cigarettes.
