End of community service programs!
End of community service – Reactions from mayors

"The Ministry of Labor has informed us that after the end of the existing program, there will be no new one", said the president of KEDE, effectively announcing the final abolition of 25,000 jobs in the OTAs!

In fact, he said that municipalities cannot go to elections without seasonal staff. This particular development is a "bomb" in the foundations of the operation of municipalities and Regions of the country, since they will be left without necessary personnel in very critical sectors for their operation, especially in the summer months.

We remind you that the 8-month contracts of the last "Community Work" program expire within the two months of January - February 2023.
Based on the official data of DYPA, in the current program a total of 11,801 unemployed people with compulsory education (HE), 6,575 unemployed with secondary education (DE), 3,114 unemployed with technological education (TE) and 3,510 unemployed with university education (PE) are employed in 170 different professional specialties, while the 25,000 program places are distributed as follows:
— Municipalities: 20,397 positions (81.6%)
— Regions: 2,566 places (10.3 %)
— Decentralized Administrations: 348 posts (1.4 %)
— Other Agencies: 1,689 positions (6.7 %)
For the Local Government bodies, the final removal of the specific contractors and much more the announcement by the Ministry of Labor that there will be no new program (according to the president of KEDE) is expected to cause huge "gaps" in services that the municipalities will be asked to fill with remunerative contracts with what this means for their already "shaken" finances, as well as the municipal fees that will be borne by the citizens.
Already the announcements of the president of KEDE caused the strong reaction of the mayors, since they see that in view of a pre-election year they will face phenomena of "nakedness" of staff in several municipal services with what this implies for the provision of services to the citizens.

At the same time, the comparative development is expected to cause a "blow" for thousands of long-term unemployed who were waiting to work in some subsequent community service program in order to join the labor market and avoid marginalization, maintaining their employability.
