ELAS draws the attention of the citizens for a fake message

ELAS draws the attention of the citizens  , as there is an ongoing attempt  by astute people  to deceive unsuspecting citizens with a new circulating fake-deceptive message.

Specifically, the perpetrators are using the information of the Chief of the  Hellenic Police , Lt. General  Dimitrios Mallios , while in their attempt to give "authenticity" to the relevant  letter,  they are using the logo of the Hellenic Police.

In detail, the perpetrators, pretending to be the competent auditing authorities, distribute letters through electronic mail and try to deceive  citizens-users of the internet under the pretext that the recipient is involved in a case of pornography and other crimes.

ELAS underlines that the specific message is obviously fake and fraudulent and  is sent by perpetrators  who are obviously trying to deceive-mislead the citizens and subsequently obtain an illegal financial benefit.

At the same time, the Police appeals to citizens not to respond and to delete the specific message, as well as " not to open " the attached files to avoid being infected by malicious software.

It is recalled that more tips to avoid defrauding citizens are posted on the website of the Hellenic Police (www.astynomia.gr), in the "Citizen's Guide/Useful tips" section, while  additional information and advice  on incidents of electronic fraud are available on the website of the Directorate of Prosecution of Cybercrime www.cyberalert.gr.
