Draft bill for non-state, non-profit universities passed in principle in Parliamentary committee

The New Democracy MPs with a ruling majority voted in favour of the bill in principle.

An education ministry draft bill on "Reinforcing State Universities - Framework for the operation of non-profit branches of foreign universities" was on Friday accepted in principle in the Hellenic Parliament's Standing Committee on Cultural and Educational Affairs.
The New Democracy MPs with a ruling majority voted in favour of the bill in principle, with the MPs of main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance and the opposition parties PASOK-Movement for Change, Communist Party of Greece (KKE), Nea Aristera, Spartiates and Niki all voted against.
The MPs representing the opposition parties Elliniki Lysi and Plefsi Eleftherias abstained, saying they will state their position during the plenary debate.
