"Different approaches" in Turkish-Greek relations
Diplomatic sources on Fidan's statements: Greece trying to improve relations but 'different approaches' remain.
"The fact that we are are trying to improve our relations does not mean that there are not seriously different approaches on certain issues," Greek diplomatic sources said on Monday, in response to press questions regarding the statements by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on the Turkish TV channel A Haber, in an interview on Sunday night.
"We place emphasis on mutually beneficial issues but we do not abandon our basic positions. This is precisely what is said in the Athens Declaration," the sources added.
In his interview, Fidan stated, among other things, that "there are issues between us that take time. Mainly the status of the Aegean islands, demilitarisation, and airspace; here, we are looking to discuss these problems from a new perspective."
