On Saturday, September 21, 2024, Katerina Papakosta, the Deputy Minister responsible for Social Cohesion and Family, visited the Women’s Shelter affiliated with the Municipality of Gümülcine to gather information about its operations and efforts in combating violence against women.
Reception and Overview
Upon her arrival, Papakosta was welcomed by Kleopatra Stoyannidu, the Deputy Mayor in charge of Social Solidarity, Equality Policies, and the Fight Against Discrimination and Gender-Based Violence, along with the shelter’s staff. After touring the facility, Papakosta received insights into its functioning, the awareness-raising activities being conducted, and issues relevant to the staff.

Stoyannidu emphasized the essential role of the shelter in ongoing efforts to eliminate violence against women and expressed the need for continuous collaboration with the ministry to ensure the shelter’s operations persist effectively.
