Deputy Climate Crisis Min. Triantopoulos: We will support farmers

The total of state support to farmers "could reach up to 500,000 euros per farmer, several times over what has historically been granted up to now as support to the primary sector,"

Deputy Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Christos Triantopoulos said in an interview to Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA) published on Sunday.

In addition, he said, the start has begun of providing farmers with 50% advance payments of state support, advances that can reach up to 200,000 euros. The platform for assistance applications, arogi.gov.gr, "will start accepting farmers' applications early this coming week for additional aid of 5,000 euros each in they assess their damage as very serious, and 10,000 for extremely bad damage," Triantopoulos added.

The minister said that works to restore Thessaly and Evros, from severe flooding and fire, respectively, "are moving ahead at a fast pace." He underlined that the initial fiscal assessment for Thessaly is close to 3.3 billion euros; however, if one adds the support measures already implemented and the restoration works being promoted by all ministries will have a fiscal impact of over 1.4 billion euros on the state budget. The implementation of the restoration work "is 40% over the initial assessment," he added, while he noted that the regulation on electricity supply to farmers in Thessaly and all other areas hurt by the extreme flooding phenomena of September 2023 "are a most significant relief" measure, with a seven-year prospect.
