Decongestion in asylum seeker facilities continued to drop in April 2024

The decongestion of the National Reception and Identification System continued in April 2024 with a new drop in the number of asylum seekers hosted in reception facilities.
Specifically, there was a 13.2 percent drop in asylum seekers (from 23,245 in March to 20,021 in April). The decline since the start of the year (January 1) was almost 40 percent, while the drop was even higher (50 percent) in the five reception facilities on the eastern Aegean islands.
Finally, the total number of illegal arrivals in April reached 2,493, the Migration and Asylum Ministry said in an announcement on Thursday.
