Deckhand killed by truck during unloading at Patra Port
A 47-year-old female crew member lost her life in the early hours of Friday at the port of Patra in western Greece during a vehicle unloading operation.
The woman, a deckhand serving on board an Italy-flagged passenger and vehicle ferry, was fatally injured after being struck by a truck while assisting with the disembarkation process. According to the Hellenic Coast Guard, the vessel had arrived in Patra from Italy shortly before the incident.
Emergency services rushed the injured woman to the General University Hospital of Patras, where her death was confirmed.
The 44-year-old driver of the truck involved in the accident was also taken to the hospital after reportedly experiencing discomfort following the incident.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is currently being carried out by the Patra Port Authority.
