Courts to use AI tools to modernize judicial system

In a joint effort to modernize the Greek judicial system, the Ministries of Justice and Digital Governance have announced that they are working on a new suite of artificial intelligence tools aimed at improving court efficiency, speeding up proceedings and reducing operational costs.
The initiative – presented by Justice Minister George Floridis and Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou – will introduce systems for automatic document translation (between Greek and English, Italian, Chinese, and Arabic), real-time interpretation of foreign witness testimonies (in English, Italian, Chinese, and Arabic) and transcription of court proceedings.
According to a joint press release, the project addresses long-standing delays caused by the need to translate hundreds of pages of documents and the limited availability of translators, particularly for rare languages. These delays have increased costs and slowed the delivery of justice.
The new systems are being developed under a memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Justice and the National Infrastructures for Research and Technology (GRNET) agency.
