Coronavirus cases drop, flu infections remain high Feb. 26 - March 3
Influenza cases remained at high levels for another week (February 26-March 3), while coronavirus cases dropped in the same week, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said on Thursday.
Cases of SARS-CoV2 infections dropped in the week of Feb. 26-March 3, compared to the previous week, with hospitalizations dropping 44% (208) in relation to the average of hospitalizations in the last four weeks (371) and by the same period in 2023 (925). Intubations for Covid-19 (1) also dropped for the week, with 22 people currently intubated, compared to the average 5 of the last four weeks. There were 12 deaths with a median age of 86.5 years of age (range of 70-93), also reduced compared to the average of the last four weeks (30). The most common variation of BA.2 was JN.1.
In terms of the flu, there were 3 hospitalizations in intensive care units (ICU) and 2 new deaths in the past week, while another ICU case was reported retroactively. A total of 132 people have been hospitalized since the start of the flu season.
