Claim: a debate on "why don't we have a flag painted with the blood of martyrs" in Greece?
A few days ago, statements from Natsios, a member of the far-right Niki Party, regarding the Greek flag displayed at the consulate in New York, featuring heavy red tones, sparked a discussion not only in Türkiye but also in various other countries. According to sources, these statements have allegedly triggered a debate in Greece over the question, "Why doesn't our flag bear the blood of martyrs?"
With recent cultural exchanges between Türkiye and Greece gaining prominence on social media, alongside noteworthy instances such as the resemblance of an individual to Turkish geologist Celal Şengör on a television program, the introduction of the red-colored Greek flag has prompted questions in Turkish public opinion: "Is Greece now imitating our flag?"
But is Greece genuinely admiring the Turkish flag? In reality, Dimitris Natsios, a member of the Niki Party, who designed the flag to raise awareness about femicide, faced criticism from Foreign Minister Gerapetritis. According to Gerapetritis, the color of the Greek flag is blue, and red is only present when blood is shed for its cause.
