Changes are coming to DOATAP!

A law that foresees fundamental changes in DOATAP, which approves university diplomas obtained from abroad, has been prepared.

The Greek Ministry of National Education and Religion is preparing radically changes in DOATAP (Recognition and Equivalence Institution), which carries out the recognition and confirmation of diplomas of graduates from higher education institutions abroad. The Ministry submitted the draft law, which will include radical changes, to the relevant commission of the Greek parliament.

In the article written by Apostolos Lakasas for Kathimerini, he stated that if the new law is approved by the parliament and comes into force, foreign higher education diplomas will be recognized by DOATAP according to the new system.

In the news published in Kathimerini on the subject, it was stated that the aim was to solve the problem of long waiting times in the recognition of diplomas and to simplify the recognition process, according to the new law that envisages radical changes.

It was also reminded that petitioners who will be appointed as teachers in public schools, especially with the change of the system, face the risk of missing the application deadlines. It is not known what will happen to the petitions of many people who are currently waiting to be appointed in public schools if the law changes. It was noted that people who may be victims of a possible change in law can seek their rights in the courts.

It has also been noted that DOATAP has made a call to urgently submit the necessary documents so that the diplomas of the graduates of the education faculty who have applied to DOATAP until now are quickly recognized according to the old law.

On the other hand, according to the new law, it was noted that postgraduate degrees will not be taken into account in applications for equivalence and recognition to DOATAP.

With the new system, it was stated that the diplomas of educational institutions recognized abroad will be accepted as the academically equivalent diploma of the country if all studies are done outside of Greece or some of them are done in a public education institution in Greece, and the master's degree will not be taken into account in the application for the exam.

It was noted that after the undergraduate diplomas received from abroad are approved by DOATAP, diploma holders can apply for membership to the relevant professional chambers.

It was reminded that according to the new law, DOATAP can make decisions regarding the necessity of written exams and internships for some professions.

On the other hand, it was emphasized that there is no information about the fate of the diplomas given by the thimble education institutions that provide distance education.
