Bahçeli: Greece's show of force would be a grave military and political mistake

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli stated that any display of force by Greece would have severe military and political consequences, describing it as a tragic mistake.

Speaking at his party's parliamentary group meeting, Bahçeli emphasized that ignoring problems with the hope they will disappear is naive. He asserted that Türkiye is a strong nation, capable of addressing any issue with determination and historical perspective.

Bahçeli criticized Greece’s plans to deploy missiles with ranges between 30 and 300 kilometers on Aegean islands, labeling such actions as violations of international law and a challenge to Türkiye. He accused Greece of militarizing demilitarized islands near Türkiye’s shores, which he said undermines peace in the Aegean and provokes tension.

Referring to the Dodecanese Islands, Bahçeli claimed they were unlawfully taken from Türkiye, adding, "Türkiye can live without the Dodecanese, but the Dodecanese cannot live without Türkiye."

He warned Athens against escalating tensions, invoking historical parallels to Greece’s defeat in the 1920s, and emphasized that Türkiye will not abandon its sovereign rights in the "Blue Homeland." Bahçeli concluded by advocating for peaceful diplomacy, but asserted that if war becomes necessary, it would be met with unwavering resolve by Türkiye.
