Athens activates emergency measures to protect vulnerable residents as temperatures drop

From Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. and until further notice, the city will implement cold-weather emergency protocols. As part of the measures, the Agios Eleftherios Friendship Club, located at 372 Acharnon Street, will operate as a heated shelter offering temporary accommodation, meals and basic care services.

Municipal Street Work teams will be deployed across the city on a 24-hour basis to support people experiencing homelessness. The teams will distribute hot drinks, snacks, clothing and blankets, while also providing information and assistance to those who may have difficulty accessing the Multifunctional Center for the Homeless. The center operates around the clock, offering accommodation, food and additional support services.

A dedicated call centre will be available 24 hours a day at 210 5246515/6 (extension 0).

Residents can also report locations where homeless individuals may require assistance by emailing kyadastreetwork@athens.gr.

In addition, the Municipality’s four-digit service line, 1595, will continue to receive reports and requests for support as the cold-weather measures remain in effect.
