Androulakis: Dialogue with Türkiye must be without illusions
PASOK-Movement for Change leader and head of the main opposition Nikos Androulakis has expressed reservations whether the dialogue with Türkiye regarding the referral of the delimitation of the continental shelf and maritime zones to The Hague can be completed effectively.
Androulakis, speaking at the Conference on Foreign Policy in the 50 Years of the Metapolitefsi, emphasized that "we must discuss with Turkiye, but without illusions, and this is the only topic for discussion."
At the same time, he criticized Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis, saying that they are raising high expectations while Türkiye continuously raises other issues such as the demilitarization of the islands. "Time does not always work in our favor, and Türkiye's European path is a chimera," he noted, while proposing a special economic relationship with a new customs agreement.
Androulakis, evaluating the Foreign Policy that Greece has followed throughout the entire period of the Metapolitefsi, mentioned that after the national defeat in Cyprus in 1974, all governments adhered to the basic national line. He added, however, that only PASOK developed strategies for the promotion of national interests, with the top achievement being Helsinki and Cyprus's accession to the EU.
On the occasion of the events in Syria, he spoke about the EU's embarrassment and expressed his concern about Türkiye's involvement. Androulakis also commented on the re-election of Donald Trump in the USA as a negative development for both security in Europe and democracy.
