Air-land links between the EMT and the Aegean Region being sought
The President of the Region of Eastern Macedonia - Thrace Christodoulos Topsidis and the President of the North Aegean Region Kostas Mucuris held a working meeting at the provincial building in Alexandroupoli. During the visit, the possibility of establishing sea and air links between the two regions was discussed.
The meeting took place as part of a three-day visit by the President of the North Aegean Region to explore the possibility of sea and air links between the two regions.
"A ferry connection from Alexandroupoli would increase the flow of tourists to Limni, Lesvos, Chios, Ikaria and the Eastern Aegean islands in general. It would be even better if there is an air connection, because it could strengthen the tourist product. We also have many students from our region studying at the Aegean University and vice versa. I also believe that the trade relations that have existed since 1970 will be strengthened."
Mucuris stated that he received positive reactions in the Eastern Macedonia - Thrace Region regarding his proposal and that in the coming days he will hold talks on this issue with the competent minister in his region.
It was agreed that the second meeting in Alexandroupoli will take place in May in the North Aegean region and that a meeting will be organised with the aim of signing a memorandum of understanding between the two regions.
"Our aim is to create the infrastructure and conditions for us to really increase our economic size. Opening up to the outside world has been one of our priorities from the very beginning and this is the context of our cooperation today." Topsidis said that efforts are being made to increase the number of visitors to Samothrace and that meetings will be organised in this regard in the near future.
