Abuse reports hit new high: European Line 116016 launched in Greece
Reports of child abuse in Greece surged by 65% between January 1 and October 31, 2025, according to data released by “The Smile of the Child” (Hamogelo tou Paidiou) during a press conference on Wednesday. The sharp increase was recorded on CyberTipline Hellas, one of the organization’s core reporting lines, which receives both named and anonymous submissions.
“The Smile of the Child” also operates the National Child SOS Line 1056, a day center for vulnerable minors, the National Center for Abuse and Exploitation, and the European domestic-violence helpline (116016). The latter was officially launched in Greece on Wednesday, connecting 13 call centers across the country under a unified European framework.
The data was presented by “The Smile of the Child” CEO Kostas Giannopoulos in conjunction with two international observances: the World Day for the Prevention and Healing of Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence on November 18, and the World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse on November 19.
